Naughty Gnocchi

I’ll start off this post by letting you know that while they did look great, this batch of homemade gnocchi didn’t turn out as amazing as I thought they would. Remember last week when I told you I was going to try out this recipe? Well, I did–and, I guess I winged it a little too much because the gnocchi turned out a little too floury. However, I’d be vain if I only shared with you my successes and not my unsuccessful adventures like this one. So, I present to you, the post of the Naughty Gnocchi!

Here I am with my fake smile assuring Nicholas everything is going to be alright after we realized the mixture was way too wet and we needed to add more flour than the recipe called for.

In this picture, I had already convinced myself everything was working out fine. I had added more flour and the consistency of the mixture felt alright. (I didn’t realized that was a mistake until I ate it about half hour later!)

After spending about twenty minutes rolling out the dough and cutting them into little pieces, I flash boiled them (I’m sure there is a more accurate word for “flash boiling”? Chefs help me out here!) and then sauteed them in some garlic and olive oil.

They weren’t terrible. My guests (yes, I actually thought it would be very successful so I invited over a few people) even thought they were good (they could have been lying but I didn’t think these are the type of people that lie!) And, the Naughty Gnocchi’s biggest fan was my neighbor, Spencer, who has some sort of eating situation (not like an eating disorder, he’s just allergic to a few key things) where he basically doesn’t eat a lot of things. So, I was honored when he chowed down three plates of my Naughty Gnocchi!

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t so bad. Do you guys have any gnocchi tips/recipes you’d like to share?

I just made gnocchi this past weekend! The gnocchi expert told me it’s KEY for the gnocchi to float to the top. That’s when you know they are light and fluffy. If they don’t float, it means you added too much flour or overworked the dough.

Kendra: Thank you! It’s small, but my boyfriend and I have put a lot of love into making it look nice!
Lily: Clever, eh??? I’m going to try making them again. Hopefully they will turn out better next time!
Annette: I did let mine float to the top as I also read this was key! Something else must have gone wrong :(
    Nicholas: I love you.

OH, those look yummi. Gnocci can be difficult. I’ve made it a few times with great success, but I remember once my mother threw the whole cookbook in the trash after her dumplings dissolved in the cooking water. I don’t try it very often. It’s a bit more work than I can manage on a weekday.

    Love,
    Heather
