Continuing with my subject “Let’s Talk About Internships” here is today’s topic:
What To Wear On Your First Day and Everyday After That?
I see this question get asked all the time. And, while it’s not the thing you should be worrying about the most, your appearance (at least if you’re interning at a magazine) does have some importance. My first word of advice would be to feel comfortable in whatever you wear. Chances are you’ll be running around the office (or even the city) so, you don’t want to be pulling down your skirt every time it rides up your thigh. Also, flats are probably a good idea, however, if you feel comfortable in heels, go for it. I once had friend in elementary school whose mom wore heels all around Disney World during a school trip. She said they were more comfortable to her than sandals. More power to her, but I still don’t get it! Lucky for me, I’m not running around too much, so there are days when I’ll put on some shoes with a little height, however, it’s mostly sandals and flats for me. BUT, don’t let the word “comfy” get to your head. I see other interns (no offense to you guys if you’re reading this. Which I doubt you are, but you know, disclaimer.) wearing ripped cut-offs (Snooki style) and have bra straps falling all over the place and I just ask myself “Why?” Being comfortable is one thing, but looking unkempt and not together is another thing. My best advice would be to look at what your editors and bosses are wearing, tone it down just a notch, and inject your own style into that–chances are you’ll look the part while still being able to carry out your tasks.
