My First Days in Paris
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at August 6th, 2011
Thursday was my first day in Paris, however, it felt like I had been here a thousand times before. The attraction I’ve felt–and still feel–towards this place is like no other. What I feared was an over romanticized notion of a city most claim to love, only proved itself real before my very eyes. And, I think at some point in time, while gazing onto the streets of Montemarte from the balcony of the lovely, quaint apartment we are staying at, I realized that a city I could love more than New York did exist–Paris. And while I could go on for hours on every reason I’d love to stay, all I’ll say right now is that I am looking forward to the day I can call this city home.

Ofagna’s Medieval Festival
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at August 3rd, 2011
Every year, Ofagna–a medieval hill-top town located close to Ancona–hosts a medieval festival. This year, Nicholas and I were around for the festival so decided to take part in the festivities while visiting one of Nicholas’ friend who lives in the town of Ofagna.

Everywhere you turned, there was someone dressed in a mask trying to scare you and little relics which paid tribute to the medieval times. Being at the festival truly made me feel like I was part of the olden days sans the medieval-wear. Even the lights that lit up the town where of fire and not light bulbs.

Along with the atmosphere, there are super fun games to partake in like Javelin throwing and shooting a target with a bow and arrow. Nicholas’ nephews, Jack and Rex, were beyond excited to give the archery stand a try. Apparently Jack is reading a book that takes place in the Medieval times so he was thrilled to feel as if he was a part of the time that his book takes place in.

Notes On Italy
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at August 3rd, 2011
As our last day in Italy approaches (uh, today) I’d like to reflect on my time here and share some of the discoveries I’ve made in my three weeks in this lovely country. Some of these things are obvious, however, they have become even more clear in my mind as the days passed on. (Accompanying the post is some photos from our days in Sirolo–the seaside town where Nicholas’ family spend their summers)

Le Due Sorelle
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at August 1st, 2011
Today, Nicholas, Federico, Ionella, and I headed out to Le Due Sorelle–a beach located at the bottom of Monte Conero. Le Due Sorelle stands for “the two sisters” which was named after the two cliffs that jut out of the water right along the beach. The beach is only accessible by boat and you cannot park within 300 meters of the boat so that means a lot of swimming. Instead, we just ended up swimming in the beautiful waters of the Adriatic Sea along the boat.

Tomorrow, Nicholas and I head to Firenze. A doppo!

Italy: Lake Como
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at July 23rd, 2011
After the wedding Nicholas, Bjorn, Jim, Ziva, and I headed north to Lake Como–one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. We stayed at the Terminus, visited Villa D’Este, and took a boat trip to Bellagio.

Now Nicholas, Bjorn, and I find ourselves in Ancona hanging out at Nicholas’ family’s house. Ciao!

Italy: The Wedding
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at July 22nd, 2011
It’s moments like this weekend when one realizes how lucky they are. What more can one ask for than being in a beautiful little town in Italy with all your friends? Last Friday, Nicholas and I arrived in the little hill top town of Barga which is located in Tuscany. Most of our New York friends were already here for our friends Dave and Kristin’s wedding. We obviously expected an amazing time but what we got was really five star. I’d love to share the details!

You can see Barga in the background–the town we stayed in.

Everyone was handed parasols to protect ourselves from that same Tuscan sun. It was hot!

Nicholas and I!

We started off with a risotto that somehow had strawberry infused in it. It was good and the strawberry flavor was subtle so it worked out great!

I had an amazing steak for dinner.

Bon Voyage!
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at July 14th, 2011
Today, Nicholas and I take off to Italy! I’m very excited to eat pasta (even though I know I’ll regret saying that in three weeks when all I’ve had to eat is pasta!) swim in the frigid (but nice…) European waters, and just relax! Nicholas and I will arrive in Florence where we will then drive to a small town called Barga. We’re attending a wedding with all our friends and will then make it to the Cinque Terre! After that is Lake Como then Ancona to spend time with Nicholas’ family. I can’t wait! I will try to post as often as I can! xx

Weekend Instagrams
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at July 11th, 2011
This weekend was pretty relaxing. Nicholas and I just wanted to take it easy since we’re leaving to Italy on Thursday. Okay, what I really mean is that we’re already in vacation-mode already and felt like doing absolutely nothing. Yeah–typical, right? Unfortunately, I have a pretty busy week ahead of me (papers! internships! meetings! ahh!), however, it will all be worth it come Thursday! Oh, and my new favorite app? Instagram. I’m late, obviously, but I’ve been trying all the other ones that don’t even compare to Instagram’s price (free!) and simplicity.

Happy (Belated) Birthday, In Between Seams!
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at July 7th, 2011
I feel terrible. My little blog here turned two years old about a week ago and I didn’t even notice. I’m a bad mother, I know. However, I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to keep blogging for two years now. Of course, I’ve had my weeks of silence although, I think that only makes for betting blogging–only posting when you have something meaningful to say.
I’m also happy that in my two years of blogging, I’ve been able to gain readers (and have lost some!) while staying true to my blogging ways. Over-promotion, as well as outfit-of-the day posts, I’ve realized, are just not the way I roll–just in the same way that I’ve tried to keep In Between Seams from venturing off its path and too much into a fashion-related blog. Through my random recipes, indulgences in photography, and just every-day rants, I hope that I’ve been able to keep you interested in not just my blog–but beauty, life, and the little things.
So, in celebration of In Between Seam’s second birthday, I’ll be hosting a giveaway later today. So, stay tuned!

Summer Party
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at June 28th, 2011
For some reason (maybe to spend time with friends? Celebrate summer? I really don’t know) I decided to throw a first-weekend-of-the-summer party. It would take place on my rooftop, thoughts of summer would fill everyones minds and everyone would feel like as if they were sipping strawberry daiquiris on the beach in Acapulco, right? Meh, not so much. Things got pretty stressful when I started to cook(!) for all thirty (yes, I decided I wanted to cook for everyone too!) people. Now, as you can imagine (or as you know, well seasoned party throwers!) this was not an easy task, and I blame you, Pinterest, for my overzealous desires! You make everything look so easy in those little boxes. If only making Capreses skewers and mini-sliders were as easy as pressing ‘repin’!!! Regardless, all went well (if you don’t count the 10 mini sliders that became well too acquainted with my floor) and I think (and hope!) everyone had a great time.

Hi, Summer.
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at June 21st, 2011
Today marks the first day of summer and I’m pretty happy about it. While most are probably dreading this season, I actually look forward to it as I feel the city is most alive this time of year. Rooftop parties, dewy cheeks, all the fun stuff. How do you feel about summer?

Happy Friday
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at June 17th, 2011
You’ll have to excuse my lack of posts in the past week as I’ve been quite busy. With my internship three days a week, and almost a full day of summer classes on the other days I find myself with little time to update my little blog here. Of course I could update about what I’m wearing to the grocery store today, or about how I banged my knee on the side of the bed yesterday, however, I really try to post interesting and original content–something I find takes more than just a few minutes a day. But have no fear! Summer classes will soon be over and I’ll get back into the swing of things! In the meantime, I will try and post as often as I can!
What do you all have planned for this weekend? Nicholas and I will be spending our Saturday with his sister and her family who are in town, and Sunday is reserved for doing absolutely nothing–my favorite activity! Here are some links from around the web:
Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese?
Something about a not-so-good-photo paired with white font/clever saying makes me happy…
The world’s biggest potato spud. It’s big.
Would love to be here right now. Or here.
Don’t have a yard? How about this for a garden?
Sparkling Strawberry Limeade. Perfect for summer.
I have a friend named Becky. Rivka is her band. And this is her friend, John’s band, Ivory Weeds.
Meatless month has been over for a while now. However, I’ve decided to not eat lamb from now own. A lot of it has to do with this picture. How can i eat something so cute??

Walking On The Beach
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at June 1st, 2011
Nicholas, my sister, my sisters friend, and I spent most of today at Crandon Park, a small beach just south of South Beach. Even though they’re close to each other, they’re separated by a body of water so it actually is so much faster to get to Crandon Park from my house than South Beach. Plus, I like how calm and quiet this beach compared to the hustle and bustle of South Beach.

The Most Deliscious Yet Simple Pasta Recipe
by Elizabeth Jaime posted at May 28th, 2011
I’ve been wanting to share this recipe with you guys for quite some time. Just because we make it here at least once a week and we crave it every other day. Trust me on this one, you need to make this and try it, because you’ll absolutely love it. Nicholas is the one who makes this pasta around here and I believe its recipe was passed down to him by his mother who makes it as well.
Ingredients:
1. Half of a white or yellow onion
2. Red tomato sauce (we like to use Pomi)
3. Pasta of your choice (we prefer this recipe with long pasta)
4. Olive oil (lots of it)
Instructions for the sauce (I imagine you guys know how to make pasta!):
1. Take a good amount of olive oil (a little more than you would normally use) and put it in a sauce pan.
2. Chop half onion to three or four large cubes and fry them in medium/high heat in the olive oil until they’re a dark brown (this step is crucial–without the browning of the onion you would loose a lot of flavor)
3. Once the onion is browned, add the tomato sauce. Add a good amount of salt and pepper. Stir, lower the heat, and simmer for about ten to fifteen minutes. Allow to cool before mixing thuroughly with the pasta.
4. Serve with a good amount of Parmesan cheese (don’t be shy here!)
And there you have it! It’s so simple but I don’t know, something about the onion and all of the other stuff makes this pasta so irresistible. Please try it out and let me know what you think!
